Faculty of Smart Agriculture

The Faculty of Smart Agriculture of Suzhou Polytechnic Institute of Agriculture was established in 2009. It is a young, vibrant and dynamic faculty with seven subjects, namely, Computer Application Technology, Computer Network Technology, IoT Application Technology, Mechatronics Technology, Electrical Automation Technology, Facility Agriculture and Equipment, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Application Technology. The faculty currently has 1500 students, 56 full-time and part-time teachers, including 2 professors, 20 with senior titles, 1 with doctor's degree and 33 with master's degree. 25 teachers have been to Australia, the United States, Britain, Germany, Canada, South Korea, Japan, Singapore and other countries to study, forming into a high level teaching team with strong practical skills.       

The faculty gave full play to the advantages of Suzhou's location and industry, and seized the opportunities of "industry 4.0", "internet+agriculture" and the rapid development of smart agriculture. The faculty took the lead in obtaining "1+X" certificate of application development of sensor network and operation and maintenance and development of cloud computing platform. In 2015, the faculty integrated the resources of the department of mechanical and electrical engineering and information engineering, took the lead in establishing the Faculty of Smart Agriculture in the entire country, established the professional group of smart agriculture service, promoted the transformation of non-agricultural subjects such as Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and Information to the field of agricultural application, set up new agriculture-related subjects such as the Internet of Things Application Technology and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Application Technology, and established the professional group of smart agriculture service. The intelligent agriculture subject group has actively connected with the construction of intelligent agriculture in southern Jiangsu area, trained a large number of technical talents required by the development of intelligent agriculture, designed and built a number of influential agricultural IoT technology application demonstration projects for Suzhou Agricultural Science and Technology Park and Modern Agricultural Park, and exhibited a number of agricultural IoT projects with independent intellectual property rights on the first National Internet+ Modern Agricultural New Technology and Farmers' Innovation Expo as an innovative model of Suzhou intelligent agricultural new technology. It has also built Suzhou Intelligent Agricultural Technology Science and Technology Popularization Museum. It leaded the establishment of Suzhou Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Youth Alliance, and was entitled "Suzhou Intelligent Agriculture Demonstration Base".

The Faculty of Smart Agriculture has always been adhering to the concept of " let every student expand the future", and cultivates students with practice-oriented skills with cross-type and cross-occupation ability according to the new characteristics and situations of the regional development in Suzhou and Jiangsu Province. In recent years, the faculty has trained more than 4000 applied talents in computer application and mechanical and electrical engineering for the society. The graduates possess both certain theoretical knowledge and strong practical operation ability. They have both hard-working spirit and strong team cooperation spirit and give full play to their intelligence and wisdom in their works, and have been greatly praised by employers.
