Visas and residence permits are the most important documents that enable your legitimate entry and stay in China. International students who will study in China can apply for two different types of visas.

Student Visa types

X1 Visa

X1 type visas are issued to the students planning to study for over 180 days. If you are holding X1 visa, you must apply for a residence permit within 30 days after your entry into China, otherwise illegal stay is constituted. There is only one entry permitted on your visa.

X2 Visa

X2 type visas are issued to the students planning to study for less than 180 days. If you are holding X2 visa, the number of entries permitted and the duration of each stay (by days after each entry) are indicated on the visa. Usually there is only one entry permitted on your visa.

Please be noted that travelling from Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR and China Taiwan to mainland China counts an entry.
