On the afternoon of May 9, 2019, the full-time international students from Indonesia and the Republic of Congo and a volunteer assistant teacher from New Zealand came to the Bailian Community of Jinchang Sub-district, Gusu District as invited to join more than 30 community residents in the handcraft printing and dyeing activity organized by the community themed on “Harmonious Neighborhood, Inheritance of the Intangible Cultural Heritage and Constructing the Beautiful Life”.

Thanks to the explanation of the teacher from the Baiyu Susi Cultural and Creative Studio, the international students got to know the history, development and important role of handicraft printing and dyeing in modern and ancient China. Then they learned about the materials and steps of handicraft printing and dyeing. After that, under the instructions of the teacher and after a series of processes such as ligating, dip dyeing, fixation and rinsing, pieces of blue-and-white kerchiefs of different designs and bright colors were dyed amid the pleasure and cheers of the international students and the residents.

The activity increased the perception and understanding of the international students about the traditional Chinese culture and handicraft and deepened the exchanges and friendship with the community residents.
